Here’s My Story

At just 19, a North Atlanta High School graduate and Fashion Design major at Clark Atlanta University, I faced a devastating diagnosis: anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis. This rare autoimmune condition turned my world upside down, attacking my brain and challenging my strength. Since I was a little girl, I've loved to sing, and it's always been a huge part of my life. Despite the immense hurdles, I'm fighting every day to regain my strength to fully get back to the dreams that I had begun working towards, and my story is a testament to the power of hope and the unwavering support of my family.

Onyx endured a grueling 118 days in the ICU and inpatient rehab at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (CHOA) - Scottish Rite, battling anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis. During this time, her dad and I remained by her side, a constant presence in her fight. I spent every day and night with her, while her dad worked mornings and joined us late evenings. Sadly, just before Onyx's discharge in June, I was terminated from my job, where I helped small businesses with their websites. Shortly after, her dad, a warehouse manager, also lost his job. Tragically, we also lost our home due to the financial strain. Onyx lacks personal medical insurance, making it challenging to cover all her needs, especially as she requires at-home infusions and therapies. Onyx dreams of returning to the school of her choice, but the financial burden of her freshman year at Clark Atlanta University, which she had to leave mid-semester, remains a significant obstacle.

Our family humbly asks for any able financial support to help with Onyx's medical and daily living expenses, and to provide a stable home environment where she can continue her healing journey. Any and all donations can be directed to the GoFundMe linked on this page. Additionally, all proceeds from financial donations, book purchases, and t-shirt sales will be used to support Onyx's ongoing care and our family's needs, as well as to build a fund to ensure she can pursue her higher education once her therapies are complete. Your generosity will make a profound difference in Onyx's recovery and our family's ability to provide her with the necessary care and future opportunities.
